Haljibub Tex - 2002

This 10 minute, 8-channel computer composition explores the fundmental sonic makeup of basic speech patterns. Constructed with only a single, 5-second sample of actors rehearsing a scene from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, the piece employs complex layering and DSP filters to find the roots of its sounds. Several choreographers have set dances to it -- I think they like the repetitive rhythm and interesting timbres in addition to its rather predictable and discernable timing arc.

Faux Set - 2001

Like Haljibub, Faux Set attempts to break a complex sound down to its components through a combination of sample layering and signal processing. In this case the sample is a 10-second clip of water running from a small bathroom faucet.

I'm Special - 2005

Comissioned for a dance by Michael Hellend, the piece is an attempt to represent the "value of one person over another" or the "evaluation of one's own versus somebody else's image [of a specific person]". As the dance progresses, each of the two samples graudally replaces the other in volume, rhythmic value, and position within the sound field. The strucutre of the piece as well as the sounds themselves are meant to evoke thoughs of light and dark, reflection and refraction and slow resolution of form.

A La Mode - 2003

Underscoring, vocal, and dance numbers for a one act musical produced during the 2003 New York City Fringe Festival. Most of the music was recorded directly from my Korg SP 200, though it does include some sampling from news broadcasts of the time. A small amount of after-effects processing was used for the introduction. Overall the piece seeks to examine the comedy and circuity of "modern man's existential dilemma." Though the vocal accompaniments were originally orchestrated for live strings, in performance the singers were stuck with recorded tracks due to space constraints.
